Assisi is known around the world as the city of peace and the birthplace of St Francis.
St Francis, one of Italy's the most beloved saints, was born in Assisi in the 12th century.
As founder of the first Franciscan order established in 1209, St Francis always respected
the opinions of others and wounded the feelings of none.
Today Assisi is a place of pilgrimage even among non-Catholics and is the centre
of study regarding the Franciscan orders of which there are three.
St Francis is credited with paraphrasing the prayer Our Father Who Art in Heaven, a well known prayer
in both the Catholic and non-Catholic world. The Peace prayer is often attributed
to St Francis but many say it is doubtful he is the author.

città della Pace e il luogo dei natali di San Francesco.
San Francesco, uno dei Santi più amati d'Italia, nacque in Assisi nel XII
secolo.
Fondatore del primo Ordine Francescano nel 1209, San Francesco fu sempre rispettoso delle altrui opinioni e attento a non ferire i
sentimenti di nessuno.
Oggi Assisi è luogo di pellegrinaggio anche per i non Cattolici ed è
centro degli studi dei tre ordini francescani.
A San Francesco viene attribuita la Parafrasi del "Padre
Nostro", la preghiera conosciuta anche nel mondo non cattolico.
La preghiera della Pace (conosciuta in Italia come "Preghiera
Semplice") è spesso attribuita a San Francesco sebbene molti mettano
in dubbio che egli ne sia l'autore.
