SEA OF SORROW
(December 26 - 2004)

Denied a path to safety
by the force of mighty waves
Many thousands perished
in terrifying watery graves

A devastating unimaginable horror
of unprecedented scope
Across several countries it ravaged
and there's little left but hope

Babies violently ripped away
from weakened arms of mothers
Everyone searching frantically
for family, sisters and brothers

In a sea-scape gone berserk
thousands lie dead or missing
Oh the awesome power of nature
her shadow of death still hissing

No warning system in place
to flee the advancing beast
No escape to higher ground
'til waves of destruction ceased

Swept away like leaves in the wind
as we watched in disbelief
Fragile lives hurled and thrown
thousands more consumed by grief

Our whispered prayers for the living
the injured, the homeless and poor
May they be spared more sorrow
in days they must yet endure.
